In May 2000, UU Wellesley Hills voted to become an official Welcoming Congregation, the formal designation for faith communities committed to supporting LGBTQ individuals within the congregation and beyond. A committee focused on LGBTQ issues has been in existence continuously since 1997—educating members, presenting guest speakers, supporting progressive legislation, leading worship and showing documentary movies.
In 2011, UU Wellesley Hills began a program for LGBTQ youth. Enjoying remarkable success, the program spun off to become its own 501(c)(3) organization, OUT MetroWest, in 2014.
In an effort to provide a welcoming gathering space for MetroWest LGBTQ adults, the LGBTQ Interest Group launched Pride Movie Nights in June 2017. LGBTQ individuals and their allies meet once a month for conversation and the viewing of an LGBTQ-themed movie.
